Lead Family Duty Counsel Opportunities

The Legal Services Society (LSS) is currently accepting Expressions of Interest (EOI) for lead family duty counsel (FDC) services in six locations: Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, New Westminster, Prince George, and Victoria.

Family duty counsel perform very important services on behalf of the Legal Services Society in their communities.

Lead duty counsel will provide family and CFCSA duty counsel services, which will include:

  • taking a leadership role in the operation of the FDC program in each court location, including equitable scheduling of alternate FDC on the LSS FDC roster for each court location;
  • providing supervision and guidance to other FDC and liaising with court registry and LSS to facilitate smooth operation of FDC program;
  • providing local administrative support to the FDC program;
  • a working knowledge of the objectives and scope of the LSS Family Duty Counsel Program; and
  • familiarity with the Family Duty Counsel Manual.

Interested applicants should be experienced in family law including representing parents in CFCSA matters. Preference will be given to lawyers practising in each court location already on the family duty counsel roster and providing family law tariff services. Experience in mediation and collaborative practice is also preferred.
